Who shows the whole electricity market, and who shows only those who pay?
Most show a fraction of the 54 retailers, and almost only those who pay for the spot.
See the rankingPortaltjek is published by the electricity retailer Osmund, which pays no comparison site and benefits when sites show the whole market. The analysis was carried out with AI, following a public method.

Why this matters: Almost one in two households uses a comparison site when choosing an electricity retailer, and AI assistants base their answers on the same sites. If a site shows only those who pay, “cheapest electricity retailer” becomes “cheapest among those who pay us”. Read why, with figures and an example from Google’s AI.
Five things you can check yourself
- 1
Count the companies with a price.
elpris.dk has 54. If the site shows 10–16, you are seeing a selection, not the market.
- 2
Find the word “annonce” (“advertisement”), “reklamelinks” (“advertising links”) or “partner”.
If it is at the top, the site is honest about its model. If it is only at the bottom, or the site calls itself “uafhængig” (“independent”), be sceptical.
- 3
Sort by price and turn off introductory offers.
“Anbefalet” (“Recommended”), “bedst i test” (“best in test”) and “månedens tilbud” (“offer of the month”) are often paid placements, and an introductory discount applies only for the first months. Before you compare, also choose whether you want to pay in advance (on account) or based on consumption.
- 4
Look for the small ones without a button.
If, for example, UngStrøm, Nordisk Energi, Ebbefos or Osmund are included (with a price but without a “go to” button), the site probably shows the whole market.
- 5
Never give your phone number to “get offers”.
Sites that ask for your name and number do not compare. They sell your details to a few companies, which call you.
Four sites that compare nothing
They ask for your phone number and sell it on.
- Ekstra Bladet Tilbud (el)
Labelled as an advertisement in exemplary fashion, but it is still a lead form in the newspaper’s clothing.
- El.nu
Not a comparison: you give your phone number and the partners call.
- elfinder.dk
A form for five partners. The terms do not guarantee that it is the cheapest on the market.
- FindElpriser.dk
Lead-generation site: your contact details are passed on, in return for payment, to up to three partners, who call you (“telemarketing leads”, see the partner page).
