Questions people ask
Short answers to what readers, journalists and AI assistants most often ask. All figures are from 29 October and 2 November 2026.
Which comparison site shows all electricity retailers in Denmark?
Only the statutory portal elpris.dk has all 54 companies by law. Among private sites, elpriser.dk, elselskab.dk and billigste-elselskab.nu (same owner) showed 54, Strømligning 53, tjekelpris.dk 52 and elportalen.dk 50 companies with a price on 2 November 2026. None of the private sites links to companies that do not pay them.
What is the difference between elpris.dk and elpriser.dk?
The names are similar, but the sites are completely different. elpris.dk (without the r) is the statutory price portal of the Danish Utility Regulator (Forsyningstilsynet), where all electricity retailers must report their products and nobody pays for placement. elpriser.dk (with the r) is a private affiliate site, owned by Mondo Media ApS, that shows all 54 companies but earns commission when you switch via the button for one of its partners. Both get grade A from us, for different reasons.
What does it mean for a site to be an “affiliate site”?
That the site receives commission from some electricity retailers when you switch via the site’s button. This is legal and not in itself a problem. The problem arises when the site shows only the companies that pay and calls that “the cheapest on the market”. § 6(4) of the Danish Marketing Practices Act requires the commercial intent to be disclosed clearly, and Annex 1 no. 11 a prohibits hidden paid placement.
Can I trust an AI assistant’s answer about the cheapest electricity retailer?
Only if you know which sites the answer is based on. On 2 November 2026, Google’s AI Overview answered “Altid Energi” with three affiliate sites as sources, on which Altid Energi is a paying partner; on elpris.dk the agreement ranked no. 13 of 176 for a household in Copenhagen (postcode 2200) using 4,000 kWh. Ask the assistant which sources it uses, and check for yourself on elpris.dk. See the example.
Is elpris.dk reliable?
It is complete by law and shows the full price for your postcode, but the quality depends on the companies’ own reporting, the ranking is not explained, and there is no visible update date. Forsyningstilsynet exercises oversight and has issued orders over incorrect reporting. Use it to find candidates, and check the price with the company before you switch.
Why is Osmund not on elberegner.dk, samlino.dk and most other sites?
Because Osmund does not pay commission, and those sites price only companies they have an agreement with. The same applies to other small companies without affiliate agreements. Osmund has been on elpris.dk since 19 August 2026 and is shown on 8 of the 33 ranked sites.
Who is behind Portaltjek, and what do they get out of it?
Osmund ApS (CVR 45357481), a Danish electricity retailer. We sell electricity at purchase price plus a fixed subscription and pay no comparison site. We have an obvious interest in portals showing the whole market. That is why the criteria are taken from legislation, the points are public, and showing Osmund earns a site no points. The person responsible for the content is Niklas Allamand Dib, co-founder and CEO. About Portaltjek.
How was the ranking made?
By an AI model (Claude from Anthropic) directed by Osmund’s founders: searching, reading all sites in a browser, counting priced companies, CVR lookups and awarding points on a fixed scale with ten criteria and 24 points. A separate AI run fact-checked all claims before publication. The method and all observations are public, and the measurement is repeated every quarter. Read the method.
